Taobao Malaysia is set to launch a Bahasa Malaysia (Malay) interface by June 2025 to cater better to local language preferences and support the growing demand for cross-border shopping.

This update complements the English interface, launched in September 2024 that included AI-powered automatic translations and bilingual customer support in both English and Chinese. This made it easier for Malaysian shoppers to navigate the platform, with product descriptions in English and prices displayed in Malaysian Ringgit (MYR).
 

The move comes as Taobao has seen a rise in global popularity, becoming the second-most downloaded shopping app in the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom, and claiming the top spot in France. In Malaysia, as of April 2025, Taobao has also climbed to the second spot on the iOS shopping app chart, showing strong local interest.

By introducing a Bahasa Malaysia interface, Taobao aims to make the platform more accessible to local users, allowing them to navigate and shop with greater ease. For Malaysian sellers, this development simplifies the product sourcing process and enables them to list items more effectively.
